Abstract
Background: Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases whose prevalence is increasing in the community. To overcome this problem, an effective and easy-to-implement community empowerment strategy is needed. Village health cadres have a very important role in implementing a pocketbook-based community empowerment strategy in managing hypertension. With the pocketbook as an information medium, respondents can more easily convey health materials systematically and simply, so that the community better understands the steps for preventing and managing hypertension.
Purpose: To determine the effect of providing health education on the implementation of community empowerment strategies based on pocket books aimed at village health cadres in managing hypertension.
Method: Case study of nursing care using a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design method using a one-group pretest posttest design. The sample used consisted of 30 female cadres in Purbayan Village, Baki, Sukoharjo. The research instrument used was a questionnaire to measure the knowledge of cadres containing 25 questions and a pocket book compiled by researchers containing guidelines for managing hypertension.
Results: There is a difference in the average value of the pre-test (1.27) and post-test (1.70) respondents, which shows that there is an increase in the average value in the post-test group. These results are also supported by the p-value obtained of 0.001<0.05.
Conclusion: The implementation of a community empowerment strategy based on pocket books for village health cadres has proven effective in improving their knowledge and skills in managing hypertension in the community.
