Carbon Monoxide (Co) Gas Station Attendant Hemoglobin Toxicology Work Tenure
Abstract
Background: Gas station attendants are at high risk of chronic exposure to motor vehicle emissions containing hazardous substances such as carbon monoxide and lead. Continuous exposure may affect erythropoiesis and hemoglobin levels in the blood. Work tenure may reflect the cumulative exposure experienced by workers in their occupational environment.
Purpose: to analyze the relationship between work duration and hemoglobin (Hb) levels in gas station officers due to the toxicological impact of pollution produced by motor vehicles.
Method: This study employed a cross-sectional observational analytical design. A purposive sampling method was used to select 20 gas station staff members as respondents. The Point Of Care Testing (POCT) Mission Hb Meter method was used to measure hemoglobi levels, and service period data was obtained through a questionnaire. The Spearman Rank correlation test was used to analyze the data.
Results: The average hemoglobin level of respondents was 12.675 g/dl. The Spearman correlation analysis showed a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.318 and a significance value (p) of 0.171, with P greater than 0.05. This finding indicates that there is no significant relationship between length of service and hemoglobin levels in gas station attendants, where the correlation coefficient value indicates a very weak relationship between the two variables.
Conclusion: Based on statistical testing, the length of service of gas station attendants did not show a significant relationship with hemoglobin levels (p=0.171). Although the correlation coefficient wa significant (r=-0.318), the strength of the relationship was very weak. This indicates that the respondents length of service was not related to their hemoglobin levels.
