Diabetes Mellitus Elderly Fulfillment Efforts Knowledge
Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. Elderly individuals living with this condition require comprehensive care to meet their basic and social needs. Informal caregivers’ knowledge plays a crucial role in shaping the extent and quality of efforts to fulfill these needs.
Purpose: To investigate the relationship between informal caregivers’ knowledge of social needs and their efforts to address the social needs of elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus.
Method: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted using a total sampling method, involving 53 informal caregivers. Data were collected through validated questionnaires assessing caregivers’ knowledge of elderly social needs and their fulfillment efforts. Spearman’s rank correlation test was employed for statistical analysis.
Result: Spearman’s rank statistical test indicated a relationship between caregivers’ knowledge and efforts to fulfill the social needs of elderly individuals in Purwosekar Village, with p-value= 0.000 (p < α).
Conclusion: The findings are expected to provide useful information for the community, emphasizing that adequate knowledge can facilitate the fulfillment of social needs among elderly individuals.
