Chronic Disease Management Program Diabetes Mellitus HbA1c

Abstract

Background: Blood glucose or blood sugar is one of the monosaccharide sugars that is the main source of carbon that functions as the main source of energy for animals and plants. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a more stable and representative indicator for long-term glycemia. HbA1c is formed through non-enzymatic glycosylation of hemoglobin by glucose in the blood, reflecting the average blood glucose level during the life of red blood cells, which is 8–12 weeks.

Purpose: Understand the correlation of the level of compliance following Prolanis activities with the results of blood sugar checks at the Bimu Medika Muhammadiyah Clinic.

Method: This type of research is a quantitative analytical study

Results: Of the 30 respondents with diabetes mellitus who participated in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis, the majority were female, accounting for 22 individuals (73.3%) and the most frequent age category was adulthood, also comprising 22 individuals (73.3%). The adherence of Prolanis members showed an average attendance of 12 times. The mean difference in HbA1c levels measured between the first 6 months of the Prolanis program and the second 6 months was 0.49% with a standard deviation of 2.16. Bivariate analysis of the relationship between adherence and HbA1c levels in Prolanis patients using the Spearman correlation test yielded a p-value of 0.435 (p>0.05)

Conclusion: No significant correlation was found between Prolanis patient dherence and HbA1c levels in this study
