Attitude Condom Knowledge Sexually Transmitted Diseases Students

Abstract

Background: Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) remain a global public health problem, impacting reproductive health, quality of life, and the burden on healthcare services.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between knowledge levels and attitudes of students at the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) toward the use of contraceptives, particularly condoms, for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Method: A quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach was implemented. The study sample consisted of 100 non-health students selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test.

Results: The majority of respondents had a good level of knowledge (87%) and a positive attitude toward the use of contraceptives for the prevention of STDs (84%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge levels and students' attitudes toward the use of contraceptives for the prevention of STDs, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The better the students' knowledge levels, the more positive their attitudes toward the use of contraceptives for the prevention of STDs.

Conclusion: Knowledge plays an important role in shaping students' attitudes towards STD prevention behavior, so comprehensive, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive reproductive health education is needed in the campus environment.
