Fracture Hypothermia Hemodynamic Status ORIF Warmer

Abstract

Background: Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF) is a widely used treatment for closed fractures. Postoperative management aims to minimize negative consequences and help patients return to normal function. Perioperative hypothermia is a common occurrence due to anesthesia and exposure to cold environments. Active and passive warming systems are highly recommended to prevent hypothermia. Hemodynamic monitoring is essential to determine the patient's pathophysiological state and predict response to potential therapies.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of warming on the hemodynamic status of patients after ORIF fractures.

Method: The research design uses a case study with a quantitative approach to evaluate the effectiveness of warming on the hemodynamic status of patients after ORIF fractures. The location and time of the study will be December 1–6, 2025, in the Central Surgical Installation (IBS) of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital, Yogyakarta. The population and sample in this study are all post-ORIF fracture patients who underwent surgery during the data collection period, with a total sample of 8 post-ORIF patients. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling, also known as conventional sampling.

Results: After a 10-minute warmer intervention in post-ORIF patients, a 0.9°C increase in body temperature was observed, with no significant changes in other hemodynamic parameters.

Conclusion: Administering a warmer to post-ORIF patients significantly increased body temperature after 10 minutes of intervention, thereby helping prevent perioperative hypothermia. Hemodynamically, it did not cause significant changes in blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, or oxygen saturation, thus ensuring a safe cardiovascular environment for patients.
