Episiotomy Pain Post Partum Progressive Relaxation

Abstract

Background: Every woman experiences different levels of postpartum pain, with different pain thresholds. The results of an episiotomy, which is performed to prevent spontaneous perineal tears and accelerate labor, can cause postpartum pain.

Purpose: To determine how progressive relaxation techniques affect maternal pain after an episiotomy at the Barokah Medika Clinic.

Method: This study was conducted experimentally using a pre-experimental research method. The Barokah Medika Clinic received 56 respondents with episiotomy wounds. Total sampling was used, so the sample consisted of 56 people who answered. In this study, the instrument used was the MC Gill observation sheet used to transmit the pain response shown by mothers who experienced episiotomy wounds.

Results: Data processing of the analysis test using the Wilcoxone Test, which produced a p value of 0.000 indicating that there was a difference in the pain scale between the pre-test and post-test.

Conclusion: The progressive relaxation method successfully reduced pain levels and had a positive impact on multidimensional quality of life, including increased sleep quantity and quality, reduced physical restlessness, the mother's ability to be more independent in activities, social relationships, and sexual life in accordance with the postpartum phase.
