Artificial Intelligence ChatGPT Final-Year Students Learning Motivation
Abstract
Background: Amidst rapid technological advancements, the use of the artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT facilitates students' learning and assignment completion while enhancing their learning motivation.
Purpose: To determine the relationship between the use of AI ChatGPT and learning motivation among final-year students.
Method: This study employed a quantitative, descriptive-analytic, and correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 69 final-year students from Dharma Husada College of Health Sciences, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires assessing ChatGPT usage and learning motivation. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Spearman rank test.
Results: The mean age of respondents was 20.8 years (SD ±0.68), with the majority (n=36; 52.2%) being 21 years old. Most respondents were female (n=51; 73.9%). A large majority (n=66; 95.7%) perceived ChatGPT as helpful, and the majority (n=54; 78.3%) demonstrated high learning motivation. The Spearman rank test yielded a p-value of 0.023 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between ChatGPT usage and learning motivation.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the use of the AI tool ChatGPT and the learning motivation of final-year students. Students who utilize ChatGPT more effectively tend to exhibit higher levels of learning motivation. Within the context of student-centered learning (SCL), the use of ChatGPT encourages students to engage in independent learning, actively seek information, think critically, solve problems, and take responsibility for their own learning processes.
Suggestion: It is recommended that the study program conduct periodic evaluations regarding the impact of ChatGPT usage on student learning outcomes, particularly concerning cognitive and affective aspects.
