Digital Flipping Book Educational Media Mothers Knowledge of Toddlers Responsive Feeding
Abstract
Background: Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a significant public health challenge in Indonesia. One strategy to support optimal child growth is the implementation of responsive feeding; however, this practice has not been optimally applied due to mothers’ limited knowledge conventional educational media, such as leaflets, are often less interactive and less engaging, making them less effective in improving understanding. Therefore, an innovative and attractive educational medium is needed, namely a digital flipping book.
Purpose: To develop a digital flipping book innovation as an educational medium aimed at improving mothers’ knowledge about responsive feeding for toddlers.
Method: A research and development (R&D) method by adopting the Borg and Gall model up to stage VII (final product revision). This research was conducted in September–December 2025 in the working area of Sokaraja 1 Health Center. The research subjects consisted of 27 participants, including mothers of toddlers, integrated health service post cadres, and nutrition officers. Research instruments included media feasibility questionnaires and knowledge questionnaires administered through pre-test and post-test on responsive feeding. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.
Results: Limited trials indicated that the digital flipping book was categorized as very feasible, with feasibility scores of 84.45% from mothers of toddlers and 88% from integrated health service post cadres and nutrition officers. The mean was proven effective in improving knowledge, as shown by an increase in the mean score from 67.1 (pre-test) to 96.6 (post-test) the wilcoxon test produced a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention.
Conclusion: The digital flipping book innovation is proven to be effective and feasible as an interactive educational medium to improve mothers knowledge of responsive feeding for toddlers. Therefore, this research and development study successfully produced an innovative educational media product in the form of a digital flipping book that has been significantly tested for its effectiveness in achieving educational objectives.
Suggestion: Future studies are recommended to involve larger sample sizes and utilize controlled study designs to improve the validity of findings. Long-term evaluations are also needed to assess changes in responsive feeding practices, as well as further development of more interactive digital media features by considering users’ access and digital literacy factors.
