Pengaruh edukasi kesehatan oral hygiene terhadap pengetahuan dan sikap pada anak sekolah dasar

Attitude Dental Health Elementary School Students Health Education Oral Hygiene
Abstract
Background: Oral hygiene encompasses measures that support the maintenance of the health of the teeth, gums, and the entire oral cavity. Oral hygiene issues remain prevalent among elementary school children, influenced by factors such as low levels of knowledge and unfavorable attitudes. Adequate knowledge fosters positive oral hygiene behaviors, whereas a lack of knowledge can lead to negative attitudes. Therefore, health education serves as an intervention to improve knowledge and cultivate positive attitudes among children.
Purpose: To determine the impact of oral hygiene education on the knowledge and attitudes of elementary school children.
Method: This was a pre-experimental study utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 34 fourth and fifth-grade students selected via purposive sampling. Data on knowledge and attitudes were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test (p < 0.05).
Results: Regarding knowledge, the median score increased from 6.00 (pretest) to 7.00 (posttest). Regarding attitudes, the median score increased from 29.5 (pretest) to 31.5 (posttest). The Wilcoxon test yielded p-values of 0.009 for knowledge and 0.026 for attitudes; statistically, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, indicating a significant impact on both knowledge and attitudes.
Conclusion: Oral hygiene health education has an impact on the knowledge and attitudes of elementary school children.
Suggestion: Future research is expected to compare various educational methods or develop more diverse health education approaches, such as the use of educational games. Additionally, future researchers could employ a control group to clearly observe the differences between the group receiving the intervention and the group that does not.
