Active Literacy Adolescents Parental Role Reproductive Health Social Media

Abstract

Background: Adolescents often encounter various reproductive health challenges due to their limited ability to access, understand, evaluate, and appropriately utilize health-related information. In the digital era, social media has become a prominent source of health information, while parents continue to play a crucial role in shaping adolescents’ understanding and behaviors related to reproductive health.

Purpose: To analyze the relationship between social media exposure and parental role with active reproductive health literacy among adolescents.

Method: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using proportional random sampling involving 112 students. Data were collected through questionnaires developed based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) to assess social media exposure, parental role, and active reproductive health literacy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman Rank correlation tests.

Results: Most respondents demonstrated high levels of social media exposure (95.5%), strong parental involvement (89.3%), and good active reproductive health literacy (94.6%). The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between social media exposure and active reproductive health literacy (p<0.001; r=0.339). A significant positive relationship was also identified between parental role and active reproductive health literacy (p<0.001; r=0.433).

Conclusion: Social media exposure and parental role were positively and significantly associated with active reproductive health literacy among adolescents. The relationship between parental role and active reproductive health literacy was stronger than that between social media exposure and active reproductive health literacy.
