Abortion Comorbidities Diabetes Hypertension Infection
Abstract
Background: Abortion the termination of a pregnancy before 22 weeks remains a significant maternal health issue due to its potential to increase maternal mortality. Comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and infections are known to affect pregnancy outcomes and increase the risk of miscarriage in pregnant women.
Purpose: To analyze the relationship between comorbidities and the incidence of abortion in pregnant women.
Method: The article search was conducted using the PubMed and PortalGaruda databases. The search was conducted using the keywords "the effect of comorbidities on abortion," "the effect of hypertension on abortion," "the effect of diabetes on abortion," and "the effect of infection on abortion." The search yielded 383 journals from PubMed and 393 journals from PortalGaruda, which were then selected into nine relevant national and international journals, data were collected through a process of identifying, selecting, and reviewing articles according to the topic.
Results: Most journals report a link between comorbidities and abortion in pregnant women. Diabetes mellitus is known to increase the risk of abortion by twofold compared to women without diabetes. Furthermore, TORCH and Toxocara infections also show a significant association with abortion. However, two journals report no significant association between hypertension and latent Toxoplasma gondii infection.
Conclusion: Comorbidities, especially diabetes and infections, are associated with the incidence of abortion in pregnant women, so early detection and routine health monitoring are necessary during pregnancy.
Keywords: Abortion; Comorbidities; Diabetes; Hypertension; Infection.
