Anxiety Elderly Loneliness Quality of Life

Abstract

Background: Loneliness and anxiety are psychological problems that may affect the quality of life of older adults. Local data regarding the relationship between these factors and quality of life in the working area of Gunungsitoli Community Health Center are limited.

Purpose: To analyze the relationship between loneliness and anxiety with the quality of life of older adults.

Method: A quantitative analytic correlational study used a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 64 older adults selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3, Geriatric Anxiety Scale, and WHOQOL-BREF. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation because the data were not normally distributed.

Results: Most respondents had low loneliness (40.6%), mild anxiety (53.1%), and low quality of life (65.6%). The thesis reported a significant relationship between loneliness and quality of life (p=0.045; r=-0.045) and between anxiety and quality of life (p=0.006; r=-0.320).

Conclusion: Loneliness and anxiety were significantly related to the quality of life of older adults. Higher loneliness and anxiety were associated with lower quality of life.
