Anxiety Cesarean Section Nursing Education Preoperative Education Sectio Caesarea
Abstract
Background: Sectio caesarea is a surgical procedure that may cause psychological problems, particularly preoperative anxiety. Anxiety experienced before surgery can negatively affect the patient’s physiological and psychological condition, postoperative recovery, pain perception, and overall satisfaction with health services. Preoperative education provided by nurses is considered an important non-pharmacological intervention to improve patient understanding and reduce anxiety before surgery.
Purpose: To analyze the role of nurses in providing preoperative education to reduce anxiety in patients undergoing sectio caesarea based on evidence from previous studies.
Method: This study used a literature review design with a systematic descriptive approach. Literature searching was conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda databases using the keywords “preoperative education”, “cesarean section”, “perioperative patient education”, and “anxiety reduction”. Articles published between 2020–2025 in English and Indonesian were included. The selected studies were analyzed using the PICOT approach consisting of Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Time
Results: A total of 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. Most studies reported that preoperative education effectively reduced anxiety levels in patients undergoing sectio caesarea. Educational interventions delivered through audiovisual media, structured teaching, and preoperative counseling improved patient understanding, self-efficacy, early mobilization, postoperative pain management, and patient satisfaction. Audiovisual-based education was identified as the most effective method because it enhanced patient comprehension and psychological readiness before surgery.
