Mothers of Toddlers Nutritional Knowledge Stop Mamin Berkemas Toddler Overweight
Abstract
Background: Overweight in toddlers is a priority nutritional problem at the Setabelan Community Health Center, Surakarta City, with a prevalence of 4.83%, exceeding the national target (<4%). Low nutritional knowledge among toddler mothers, particularly regarding the consumption of packaged sweet foods and drinks, is a major contributing factor to this problem. Effective mitigation efforts require educational media that is valid, engaging, and easily understood by toddler mothers.
Purpose: To analyze the validity and acceptability of the "Stop Packaged Foods for Toddlers" nutrition poster in improving the knowledge of toddler mothers.
Method: This study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study subjects consisted of subject matter experts, media experts, and 30 mothers of toddlers aged 12–59 months in the Setabelan Community Health Center area, Surakarta City. Media validity was assessed through a feasibility test by material and media experts, while media effectiveness was measured using pre-test and post-test instruments with scores of <80 (poor) and ≥80 (good) as assessment categories.
Results: The poster media was deemed appropriate and valid based on assessments by material and media experts. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in knowledge among participants. In the pre-test, 12 participants (40%) had poor knowledge, and 18 respondents (60%) had good knowledge. After the intervention, all participants (100%) achieved good knowledge, with the poor category decreasing to 0%.
Conclusion: The poster media proved valid, well-received by the target audience, and effective in increasing the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding limiting the consumption of packaged sweet foods and drinks as an effort to prevent overweight in toddlers.
