Communication, Information, and Education Diaper Rash Maternal Knowledge Virgin Coconut Oil
Abstract
Background: Diaper rash is a common skin disorder in infants and can affect comfort and quality of life. The use of natural ingredients such as Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a safe alternative treatment, but mothers' limited knowledge hinders its implementation. Communication, information, and education interventions are needed to improve mothers' understanding of infant skin care.
Purpose: To analyze the effect of a communication, information, and education intervention on mothers' knowledge regarding the use of VCO in treating diaper rash.
Method: A quantitative study using a single-group pretest-posttest design was conducted among 31 mothers with infants aged 1–10 months at the Integrated Health Service Post in Temayang Village, Bojonegoro Regency. The sampling technique used total sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, with data analysis using percentages to compare pretest and posttest results.
Results: The percentage of respondents' knowledge increased from 48.3% in the pretest to 78.2% in the posttest. This increase indicates that most respondents had a good understanding of the material. The direct, interactive, and systematic delivery of the communication, information, and education intervention contributed to increased respondent understanding.
Conclusion: The communication, information, and education intervention was effective in increasing maternal knowledge regarding the use of VCO as an alternative treatment for diaper rash. Structured and ongoing health education needs to be optimized to support more effective infant care practices.
Suggestion: Future research is recommended to involve a larger and more representative sample size to increase the validity and generalizability of the results.
