Diabetes Mellitus Diet Physical Activity
Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with a steadily rising prevalence, influenced by various lifestyle factors, including diet and physical activity levels. A poor diet and a lack of physical activity can increase the risk of glucose metabolism disorders, ultimately contributing to the development of diabetes mellitus. Purpose: Analyzing the relationship between diet, physical activity, and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. Method: This study employed a case-control design. The sample consisted of 120 respondents, comprising 60 in the case group (diabetes mellitus) and 60 in the control group (non-diabetes mellitus). Data on dietary patterns and physical activity were collected via questionnaires, while diabetes mellitus status was determined based on the respondents' diagnostic data. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The strength of the association was assessed using the Odds Ratio (OR) and a 95% Confidence Interval (CI). Results: There is a significant association between dietary patterns and the incidence of diabetes mellitus (p-value = 0.044; OR = 2.270; 95% CI: 1.088–4.733), where poor dietary patterns increase the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus by 2.27 times. Physical activity is also significantly associated with the incidence of diabetes mellitus (p-value = 0.035), with low physical activity levels being more prevalent in the diabetes mellitus group compared to the non-diabetes group. Conclusion: In conclusion, there is a significant association between dietary habits and physical activity levels and the occurrence of diabetes mellitus. Poor dietary habits increase the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus, while lower levels of physical activity are commonly observed among respondents with the condition. Efforts to prevent diabetes mellitus should focus on adopting a healthy diet and engaging in regular physical activityDownloads
